The End for Wilgenhof

The end of Wilgenhof as a hostel in its current format has come. The decision has been made that the current hostel will will be closed for a year for construction and a new mens hostel will rise out of the old. For a student the hostel where they stay play a big role. Many of these traditional student hostels has a very strong culture and traditions that forms a student. Some of the traditions were close to be oppressive but build a community and young people have the time of their lives and build memories that lasted a life time.

Wilgenhof Hostel Stellenbosch

But in the end all the people leave the hostel after their studies and move on with there lives. In all hostels across south africa some of these traditions were good but some were bad as well. And it seems like something in Wilgenhof in the end discredited the University. The University had to make a division and in the end the University made a decision to break from the past and create something new that can still serve many students in the future. For the old students of Wilgenfof its probably a sad day but even a seed sometimes need to fall on the ground and die to start something new for all. Even in the History of South Africa taught us that the Old South Africa had to die for a new South Africa to be created. So the best advise for the students will be to embrace the change and create something new that will help to biuild a bettern and equal South Africa for all. Change is everywhere and to resist change wont help. The buildings and infrastructure are there let it help to build for all to unify rather than to devide. All I can do is to refer everyone to the words of President Paul Kruger take out of the past and learn from that and build a future for all. So in my words let by gones be by gones and create something for the future to the advantage of the univercity and the whole nation.
